Information for professionals and practitioners

Leicester Safeguarding Adults Board (LSAB) works with Leicestershire and Rutland Safeguarding Adults Board to ensure that consistent multi-agency policy and procedures are available to practitioners.

Multi-Agency Policies and Procedures (MAPP)

In partnership with Leicestershire and Rutland Safeguarding Adults Board, Leicester Safeguarding Adults Board has developed Multi-Agency Policies and Procedures (MAPP). These policies and procedures provide consistency across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in the way in which adults with care and support needs who are unable to protect themselves are safeguarded from abuse or neglect.

Our local Competency Framework, which can be used by everyone who works or volunteers with adults, can be found in the MAPP as can our Vulnerable Adults Risk Management (VARM) guidance.

Training and development

Whilst it is the responsibility of individual partner organisations to ensure that their own staff are appropriately trained in matters of adult safeguarding, the Board’s training group promotes multi-agency training across the partnership. This includes sharing learning from safeguarding adults reviews as well as facilitating specialist multi-agency training required across the partnership relating to the Board’s priories. Training and development currently facilitated by the Board includes:

Fire safety awareness in the homes of vulnerable adults

This training is targeted at anyone who visits elderly, disabled or vulnerable adults in their own homes, for example health visitors/community nurses, domiciliary carers, housing officers, social workers. At the end of this half-day training participants will:

  • Understand the role of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and how they work with partner agencies
  • Know how and when to refer clients to the fire service
  • Have an improved awareness of fire hazards and risks in clients’ homes
  • Know how to maintain a safe environment
  • Be able to build more resilience for clients who may be a high risk of having a fire in their home

Details of these workshops including dates, times, locations, and how to book, are cascaded to partners agencies via safeguarding adults board members.

Mental Capacity Act (MCA) forums

Available to care providers in Leicester city, these forums focus local best practice and ways of working with the Mental Capacity Act.

Safeguarding Adults Trainers’ Network

The Trainers’ Network is a regular half day forum for staff who deliver safeguarding learning and development activities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. It is well attended by mainly private, voluntary and independent sector staff. Each event consists of presentations and updates relating to local and national safeguarding learning and development. It provides an opportunity for attendees to share best practice, challenges and questions with colleagues.

Safeguarding Matters Publication

Safeguarding Matters is an established publication read by safeguarding partners across the locality. It is with thanks to Leicestershire and Rutland Safeguarding partnerships that the Leicester Safeguarding Adults Board has been able to contribute to Safeguarding Matters since August 2018. This quarterly publication, sharing local and national safeguarding updates and best practice, is a recommended read.

Annual Safeguarding Conferences

At least once a year Leicester Safeguarding Adults Board is involved in facilitating a large-scale multi-agency conference. Details of these conferences including dates, times, locations, and how to book, are cascaded to partners agencies via safeguarding adults board members.

Leicestershire Social Care Development Group

Commissioned by the Local Authorities, Leicestershire Social Care Development Group (LSCDG) supports the workforce development and raises quality for the Independent and Voluntary Sector (IVS) across Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland. They work with over 400+ adult social care providers which include care homes, nursing homes and domiciliary care agencies.

Along with our regular training and development, throughout the year Leicester Safeguarding Adults Board also facilitates one-off training days and events. Information for which will be cascaded to agencies through Safeguarding Adults Board members.
