Active Leicester coronavirus FAQs

To maintain the safety of our customers and staff, we need to undertake certain measures at our Active Leicester leisure centres due to the national restrictions.

From 2 December, the following leisure and sport centres will reopen:

  • Spence Street Sports Centre (gym only)
  • Cossington Street Sports Centre (gym and swim)
  • Braunstone Leicester Centre (gym, swim and racquet sport)
  • Humberstone Golf Course including 3G/outdoor pitches will be open with limited services.

All Active Leicester members can access any of the sites and facilities above until local sites are reopened.

What sites will remain closed?

The following leisure and sport centres will remain closed:

  • Leicester Leys Leisure Centre
  • Evington Leisure Centre
  • New Parks Leisure Centre
  • Aylestone Leisure Centre

You can find further information on the individual leisure and sport centre pages.

Direct debit payments and annual memberships will be frozen until end of December 2020. Should some centres remain closed in January, customers will be written to and informed of reductions to direct debit payments and extensions to annual memberships.

Suspensions will be extended to cover the duration of this of limited service.

As the Covid-19 pandemic is an ongoing issue, we will be closely monitoring government guidelines and will be able to confirm an opening date for all our facilities via email and our website nearer the time.

Please be advised that Live Well Leicester is not currently operating any face to face services. For any queries relating to Live Well Leicester, contact the team at livewell@leicester.gov.uk or call 0116 454 4000.

Whilst Leicester remains under the tier 3 restrictions, organised outdoor sport, physical activity and exercise classes can continue, however higher-risk contact activity should not take place.

We have been communicating with members regularly since the closure of our centres. If you have not been receiving emails from us, make sure to update your contact details and opt into communications by emailing active@leicester.gov.uk.

You can also choose whether you want to receive promotions or not, so we won’t contact you with offers if you don’t want us to.

If you have been offered and accepted a place prior to closure, it will remain held for you until we reopen our facilities fully.

Due to Leicester entering Tier 3 restrictions, organised indoor sport among adults from different households is no longer permitted, unless participants are from the same support bubble.

Only if participants are from the same household or support bubble can doubles or singles matches be played. The new rules also mean that group coaching, club nights and matches, no-strings badminton and any form of competition including league matches are not permitted. Junior and disability activities as well as one-to-one coaching are permitted.

All lessons subject to local tiered restrictions are expected to restart in the new year.

As the Covid-19 pandemic is an ongoing issue, we will be closely monitoring government guidelines and will be able to confirm an opening date for all our facilities via email and our website nearer the time.

We are taking a number of measures to ensure that when we reopen our centres, they’re social distancing ready. This includes markings for queues, protective screens at reception desks, spacing out gym equipment, widening lanes in our swimming pools and caps on the number of people allowed in our centres at any given time. We are also implementing one-way systems where possible and allowing extra time between gym classes and other sessions for changeover of participants. Gym inductions will be conducted online, to save any unnecessary visits to the centre.

On entering one of our facilities, you will find a QR code poster; please scan this on your smartphone - this will check you in via the NHS COVID-19 app.

Please download the NHS COVID-19 app prior to visiting us.

For more information about the NHS app please visit the NHS website.
