Drawing and painting

These courses will allow you to develop your creativity with experienced and practicing artists. The tutors encourage and celebrate a range of different cultural styles and approaches to art. You may be given the opportunity to have your work shown in our online public gallery, or our exhibition when we are back open!

Learn techniques in a variety of drawing & painting mediums to explore tone, line, depth and proportion. Explore mark-making in all media to develop texture, surface and depth. Explore tonal values and use of colour to give depth, light and shade to your work.  Show how negative space can bring proportion to a drawing.

Each term, you will be working on a theme, through which you will explore and develop skills in drawing and painting. You will learn colour theory and how to demonstrate form through use of light, shade and contrast. You will experiment and combine basic techniques to develop an individual style of your own.

Learn how to create exciting and expressive work using mixed media, discovering experimental ways in using a variety of drawing and painting techniques and processes.

Learn how to observe and record directly from Autumn plants, showing accuracy of scale and colour using propelling pencil and watercolour paints on hot pressed paper. You look at the variety of tonal qualities from light to dark to demonstrate form, explore and mix watercolour paint accurately using a variety of washes.

Each term, you will be working on a theme, through which you will explore and develop skills in drawing and painting. You will learn colour theory and how to demonstrate form through use of light, shade and contrast. You will experiment and combine basic techniques to develop an individual style of your own.

You will learn how to use a variety of watercolour techniques including wet into wet, wet into dry, washes and working with resist materials. You will explore colour mixing techniques and work with composition. We will be working from and exploring a variety of subject matter including the landscape, observational painting of objects in our lives, flowers and nature.

Develop and experiment with a range of approaches to draw and paint the portrait. Learn how to select and use appropriate media to produce a likeness and essential comparative measuring and observational skills needed for portraiture. Develop an awareness of techniques used by past and present artists.

You will learn the processes and techniques to create lino prints.
