Homeless services during Christmas and New Year

A list of services that will be running in Leicester during the Christmas and New Year period, from 19 December 2020 to 3 January 2021. People will be expected to follow all current covid safety restrictions, including social distancing, when using any of these services.

Help the Homeless Leicester, providing food essentials delivery services to the homeless and vulnerable.

Referrals should be made by telephoning 0116 464 5123 by Tuesday for a Wednesday delivery.

Providing a hot meal, hot drinks, picnic food bags, toiletries, blankets and sleeping bags, five days a week, 3.30pm – 4.30pm.

Open: Sat 19 Dec – Sun 3 Jan 2021

Closed: Tues (22 and 29), Xmas day and New Year’s Day 1 Jan 2021

Case Work available by appointment. Lunch Available. Hot food and drinks in a warm and friendly place to meet and chat. Provision of clothes, toiletries, food parcels, use of washing, changing and shower facilities for rough sleepers, please phone 0116 2221161 to make an appointment.

Open:

  • Monday 21, Tues 22, Weds 23, Friday 25,  Monday 28, Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30: 10am – 1pm.
  • Christmas Day- Dinner 11am-3pm (call to request an invite).

Christmas Day Friday 25th December

Christmas dinner: 11am - 3pm by invitation only. Limited numbers. If you would like to refer an individual please email: david@bridgeleicester.org.

The centre will be open throughout the Christmas period offering advice, support and assistance to those who are homeless. No alcohol is allowed on the premises.

Service provided by Inclusion ‘Healthcare Social Enterprise’.

Inclusions Healthcare surgery will be closed from 4pm on Thursday the 24 December until Tuesday 29 December.

We will be open from 8am at Charles Berry house, 45 East Bond Street Leicester LE1 4SX telephone 01162212780. We will also close at 4pm on Thursday 31 December and reopen on Monday 4 January.

The Dawn Centre surgery will continue to be closed at this present time.

A warm and welcoming drop-in centre. A range of social activities, affordable food and drinks, practical support, computers, support and advice.

Open:

  • Monday 21 December 10.30am – 1pm Foodbank for homeless, resettled and vulnerably housed. Referral agencies email info@centreproject.org. Self-referrals also welcome.
  • Tuesday 22 December 10.30am - 4pm: Information, access to phones and computers. Numbers limited to eight at a time call 0116255013 or text 07458 308966 to book before coming.

No.5 and The Y Support Project are jointly providing a service for rough sleepers only and those who are registered with the Centre for support with drug and or alcohol misuse, but will operate flexible access arrangements if possible, within COVID-19 guidelines over the Christmas and New Year.

Triangle Christmas meal

  • Friday 18 December. Doors open 6pm, Takeaway hot meal, gifts and food hampers.  Also, clothes, toiletries, some foods and other items freely available for homeless, rough sleepers, vulnerable and vulnerably housed people.

Doors open 6pm. Takeaway hot meal and sandwiches. Also, clothes, toiletries, some foods and other items freely available for homeless, rough sleepers, vulnerable and vulnerably housed people. 

Also run a foodbank Wednesday morning from 10-12am. This will be open every Wednesday.

Open Hands provides emergency practical support and help to those who are homeless or in emergency need.

Anyone working with an individual on a professional basis can refer an individual or family to the charity for help – this could be a support worker, social worker, housing officer, doctor, child’s schoolteacher, charity or representative from another professional body.

Once a referral has been made by a suitable professional the individual can attend the charity’s centre – please note that ‘Emergency Click & Collect” referrals must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Tuesday 22 December

  • 10-11am, food hampers available by referral
  • 11am-12pm, “Emergency Click & Collect” clothing, toiletries and bedding available with advance receipt of a referral
  • 6-7pm Christmas Pie Night – takeaway – available to anyone in emergency need of a hot meal

The Y Support Project has, due to Covid-19, temporarily relocated to No 5 (Hill Street), and is working in partnership with the team at No.5.

The Y Support Project team continue to offer direct access support, advice and guidance.

Due to Covid restrictions, and limited numbers able to access the building at any one time, if we can’t offer one-to-one support at the time of presentation appointments are offered throughout the day.

Daily delivering freshly cooked hot meals with snacks, fruit, biscuits, crisps and a bottle of water to the placed homeless/rough sleepers in hotels and B & B’s throughout Leicester and Leicestershire.

Daily delivering freshly cooked meals delivered to the elderly who have no family support.

Weekly food parcels delivered every Sunday to the newly placed homeless/rough sleepers, the vulnerable, those in isolation and those facing hardship.

Housing Options is a statutory service that provides support to those that are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Currently a telephone only appointment service is running due to COVID 19.

Opening hours are Mon to Thurs, 8:30am – 5pm and Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, anyone who needs urgent advice and assistance regarding their homelessness situation can call our emergency duty line number on 0116 4541008.

Open: Mon 21, Tues 22, Weds 23, Mon 28, Tues 29, Weds 30.

New Year’s Eve: Thurs 31 – emergency duty calls only No Telephone appointments unless emergencies.

At all other times an out of hours emergency line that can be contacted in case of an emergency telephone number is 0116 2212770.
