European Parliamentary Election 2019

We supported the European Parliament elections that took place in May 2019. Polling day in Leicester was Thursday 23 May. The Leicester and East Midlands regional counts were held on Sunday 26 May.

Leicester result

The result for Leicester was declared on Sunday 26 May. The Labour Party received the highest amount of votes in the city. Download the full result at the bottom of this page. 

Verification took place on Friday 24 May. 71, 756 ballot papers were cast and turn out was 32.58%.

Voting in the European Parliament elections

To have voted in the 2019 European Parliament elections, you must have been registered to vote and also be either one of the following:

  • 18 years of age or over on polling day a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the European Union
  • a resident in the UK
  • not be subject to any legal incapacity to vote.

Register to vote

The deadline to register to vote was midnight on Tuesday 7 May 2019. If you are entitled to vote at these elections, you will receive a poll card with more information.

Postal votes

The deadline to apply for a postal vote was Wednesday 8 May, 5pm.

Proxy voting

The deadline to apply for a proxy vote was Wednesday 15 May, 5pm. 

EU citizens living in Leicester

If you are an EU citizen on the electoral register in Leicester and want to vote in the UK in these elections, you must complete and return a form that confirms your wish to vote here and not in your home country. The deadline to do this was 7 May.
