Transforming Cities Fund

We were notified on 27 September 2018 by the Department for Transport (DfT), that we are one of ten city regions that have successfully been shortlisted for a share of the £1.7 billion Transforming Cities Fund, to overhaul transport links between suburbs and city centres.

What is the Transforming Cities Fund?

The Transforming Cities Fund aims to increase productivity and growth in investment in public and sustainable transport. The fund is focused on intra-city connectivity, making it quicker and easier for people to get around – and access jobs in – some of England’s biggest cities.

How will the funding help?

Investment in the following areas will deliver a step change in:

  • public transport
  • cycling and walking activity in the city and Central Leicestershire
  • reducing congestion
  • improving air quality and health outcomes.

This will improve business productivity and unlock substantial private sector investment in key employment sectors, regeneration areas and major housing developments.

Investment within the Transforming Cities time frame will prioritise:

  1. Key Radial Bus Corridors
  2. Central Cycling/Walking Zones
  3. Transport Hubs including the railway station and bus hubs (St Margaret’s/Haymarket/Humberstone Gate).
