Gilroes Crematorium

Gilroes Crematorium was opened in 1902 and is the second oldest municipal crematorium in the country. Since opening the crematorium has conducted more than 200,000 cremations. The crematorium provides a dignified setting for funeral services, in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

Services at the crematorium

Service times are available Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4pm. Service times are one hour but this can be extended if required. Saturday morning cremations are available on request (subject to a surcharge).

Seating is available for up to 100 people in each chapel with additional seats in each side chapel viewing room.

The chapels are non-denominational so that different religions can hold funeral services in appropriate surroundings.

For people with hearing difficulties an induction loop has been installed, and external speakers are also available.

Music and visual tribute requirements

A Wesley Media system has been installed in both chapels. This system contains more than 100,000 music tracks and is available free of charge for funeral services. 

You can view the current music library for Gilroes Crematorium online at Wesley Media website which is linked above.

Simply visit the website, select Music Library and then select Gilroes Crematorium from the venue drop down box. If the music you require is not in our library you can contact Wesley Media with a special request and they will try to source the required music to add to our library.

Alternatively an organist can be arranged to play at the service by a funeral director for which a fee will be payable. Live music is also welcomed to be played during a funeral service. 

We are also able to offer visual tributes through Wesley Media. This allows you to show photographs or video memories of the deceased on screens in the chapels during the funeral service. Please see our fees and charges price list for costs which can be found at the bottom of this page.

Funeral services may be recorded on to a CD or DVD on request.
