The council as an employer

Under the Equality Act 2010 all employers have a duty to eliminate discrimination in the work place.

Some employees with shared protected characteristics may experience discrimination in the workplace. The council’s employee groups provide advice and support for our employees.

They are as follows:  

  • Black workers group 
  • Carers’ support group
  • Christian fellowship
  • Craft women’s group
  • Disabled employees group
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender group
  • Muslim support group
  • Young employees network
  • Mental wellbeing network.

Annual analysis of our workforce representation

One of our priorities is to have a workforce which reflects the city we serve.

An annual report tracks workforce representation trends over time and help us measure our performance against the city’s demographic profile.
