What do the sessions include?
- bricklaying
- carpentry
- painting
- plumbing

All the trades are taught by our qualified tradeswomen in the housing team. The course aims to encourage women to apply for the apprenticeship scheme.
Every year, we work in partnership with Leicester College to promote the free course for women in construction. The college allows us to take over the construction department where our qualified trade’s women teach the courses. This is a joint effort to encourage more women into the construction industry.
As part of our free course, the college also offer 10-week free courses in some of the trades for women that have attended the council’s construction course.
When and where will the courses be the courses held?
This year the course runs during the Easter break for four days, full details below:

During the week women can attend as few or many sessions as they wish.
Visits to schools and community centres
We are working with local schools and communities to help inform women about the diverse roles on offer on our apprenticeship programme.
A team of qualified tradeswomen is available to visit your school or community centre to discuss the programme, and give a presentation and demonstration to teachers, career advisors and young female students.
