The electoral register

The electoral register contains details of everyone who is registered to vote in public elections.

Versions of the register

There are two versions of the register: the electoral register and the open register.

The electoral register lists everyone who is entitled to vote. The law restricts who can access this and what the information can be used for. Examples include for crime prevention and credit checking. 

The open register is an extract of the electoral register, but it is not used for elections. It can be bought by anyone, and used for any purpose, such as marketing. 

Your name and address will be included on the open register unless you ask for them to be removed. If you want to be removed from the open register, you can download the form at the bottom of the page and return it to us.

How do I know if I’m registered?

You can call us on 0116 454 2000 or visit our customer service centre at 91 Granby Street. 

The centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm from Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Fridays (except bank holidays).

How do I buy a copy of the register?

You can buy a copy of the register by getting in touch with customer services using the details above. They will advise you of the cost and will be able to take payment.
